Megalopolis Project, 1956-1960.

This collection includes incoming and outgoing correspondence by Gottmann and his staff (1956-1961, chronologically arranged); maps divided into economic, land use, and population characteristics; reports; newsclippings; office files (1956-1961, chronologically arranged); publicity regarding the project; scripts used for a proposed film about Megalopolis; and the typescript drafts of the Megalopolis publication, arranged in chapter order, and version order within each chapter. The related projects include the Nuffield College (1959) and Princeton University (1958) conferences, mostly about urban growth; typescripts by Morreo Berger, the New York Metropolitan Region Study, John Rickert, Morton White, and Morton and Lucia White. There is also an extensive pamphlet file used a resource base for the Megalopolis project. The pamphlets, arranged by metropolitan region, generally describe urban growth along the eastern seaboard.
